7 Ways to Spend a Day in Malta

Down south, the popular Sunday fish market in the old fishing village of Marsaxlokk always has the freshest catch of the day, which you can feast on for lunch at one of the many surrounding seafood restaurants, before taking a stroll along the promenade in the neighbouring town of Marsascala. 

For the ultimate cultural experience that Malta has to offer, look no further than the grand capital of Valletta – a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with stately palazzos, fortifications, Baroque churches, historical gardens and so much more. 

To immerse yourself fully, go beyond the timeless riches studding this unique city to the backstreets that tell a different story. Steep narrow streets, rows of wooden balconies hung with laundry, and run-down façades will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. Round off the day by crossing over to Birgu by boat. There, you’ll find another time capsule – the oldest and grandest of the Three Cities, which even pre-date Valletta.
